mental notes
1. don't ditch out on your friends to go to a party with your husband where you will know very few people2. especially don't do it when you haven't bought any grown-up clothes in at least three years
3. never, ever do it when you are 4 months pregnant and so not only are your clothes out of style, you're in that ambiguous stage where people can't tell if you're fat or expecting and your clothes don't fit at all
We went to the election results party for Pete Ashdown Tuesday night. It was an interesting experience, if not a little akward. After stressing about what on earth I would wear, I ended up feeling like I should have been hanging out at Republican headquarters. This was based on my observations that Matt and I were some of the few people under age 40 without visible piercings, and dressed in more than grungy t-shirts. It was also a little strange to stand around waiting for him to lose, as he was quite a long shot and didn't get the support he needed.
Matt is good friends with the volunteer coordinator of the campaign, so we hung out with him and his wife. We did get to talk with Pete for a minute. He once again recognized Matt and remembered his name, which is never a bad thing in a tech industry millionaire, senator or not. We were briefly on tv when we happened to be standing behind Congressman Matheson (who actually won) during an interview.
All in all, it was kind of fun to get dressed up and great to go on a date with my husband. The fast food we ate overlooking the city was a particularly nice end to the evening. Still, talking and laughing while eating desserts in comfy clothes will always be my idea of a good time. Maybe we should do that in a year or so when we get a chance to go out again.

You're so famous! Did you record it? Did they hand select who would be in the background? Sounds like you were a shoe in choice if everyone else was in grungy t-shirts and nose rings!
Nettie wrote what I was going to use for my comment. Great minds think alike.
That would be weird, waiting for the guy to loose, I'm guessing he knew this as the results came in?.
Was there food at this party?
We were invited to the party too, but I knew Pete was going to lose and was in no mood. I was busy ranting to Mike about the stupidity...
Now I wish we would have gone. We could have seen you and our other friends. It might have actually helped my mood...
Even though you watched my kids under 2 weeks ago so BC and I could go out, I'm totally jealous of your date.
Man I'm messed up.
Hmm, that would be strange going to a party where you know the guy is going to lose.
I'm glad you enjoyed your time away!
