some stuff
mostly about Howie-This was week one of operation vertical parent before 8 am and no tv for Howie. Remember I got up with him on Monday? The first thing he did was ask for the tv. I said, "no. no shows todays." He responded, "no Arpur? No... Arpur?!" like he just couldn't wrap his little mind around a day with no Arthur and the rest of PBS kids. Cute, but ineffective. It served as the ammo I needed to stand my ground and leave the television off. It's gone pretty well. He rarely asks for it, although the remote was left within his reach and he got a few minutes of a soap opera on Wednesday. He did get to watch his beloved George Friday afternoon while I was napping. All in all, a very good week.
The weekend was a bit of a different story. He got a few hours of cartoons each morning. Matt decided weekends are special and some tv is okay. I don't expect Matt to break his Saturday morning cartoon habit of the last 25 years, and since weekends are his mornings, I'm going to stay out of it. However, when both your parents work from home, weekends aren't all that easy to distinguish from the rest of the week. Especially when you're not quite two.
-I don't know if is a product of turning off the tv, or if we never noticed because we were ignoring him, but Howie has developed selective hearing. If we ask something he isn't too keen on, all we get is "huh?"
"Howie, can you get in your chair so we can eat, please?"
"huh?"
"will you get in your chair, please?"
"huh?"
"get in your chair; it's time to eat."
"huh?"
"do you want some oatmeal for breakfast?"
"yeah! oats!"
"get in you chair please."
"huh?"
-He's getting taller. He's almost level with the next slot up for his carseat straps. He's still on the shortest setting. All the 12-18 month pants that we got out last month are suddenly too short. I'm glad he's growing, but how do they do that so fast? It's doubley exciting because now a shopping trip is in order. Woo! Anyone up for hitting the outlets?
Also, can someone explain the difference between 24 mo and 2t clothes?
-the clock. aka, the reason I didn't post this on Wednesday when I started it. I didn't bother to retrieve the camera from Matt's desk downstairs until today. Then, thanks to the bay window directly opposite, I had a hard time getting a decent picture. Without further ado, I give you the clock (and the nearly dead plant):

Isn't that wall just screaming for some paint? The cream face of the clock against the barely beige wall just isn't doing it for me. Support my co-dependency and tell me what you think I should do. just paint? what color? which wall? hang something else on the wall?

No TV week at our house went well...but we've slowly slid into our old habits. It's so much easier with TV! We might be due for another week of no TV to fix us.
24 mo and 2T clothes as far as I can tell are generally the same. The only difference I've found is that clothes that are 24mo are more baby friendly---snaps on the legs of pants, onesie shirts, etc. 2T are bigger kid ones with no snaps and stuff. I'm not sure if that's really it, though.
I have some slightly used chocolate paint if you want little sis to bring it back from the upcoming holiday.
Love,
MOM
i'm always up for outlets.
my theory on the clothes: 24 months generally means 18-24 months. 2T is slightly bigger. I think.
no idea on the paint, but i'd be happy to come help
No idea on the paints, but I'm excited to see what you come up with!
Ditto on the differences w/2T.
And impressive about the tv thing! But early morning cartoons are a new mom's best friend once a baby arrives. Kyle still gets up at 6am everyday. It's so nice that he can just go watch tv for an hour before getting ready for the day.
24 mo is always smaller- 2t is a bit bigger- what other colors are in your house
smartmama, here's how the kitchen looks (just to the right of the clock) and the bay window directly opposite. and here's the wall unit on the other side of the great room.
oh, and currently there are dark purple/eggplant couches on loan from Char, but we're hoping to be proud owners of our own furniture by the end of the year. Likely a medium to dark brown leather (neither beige nor chocolate).
It is hard giving up tv. I've been slowly trying to cut down having it on at all.
The only difference I've found between 24mo and 2T is the price. 24mo is cheaper.
Trust me. You don't want my decorating advice.
Definitely needs paint. Color. Lots of color! It all depends upon what you have in your house. I'm always up for nice warm tons, like beiges and sage!
It's so easy to fall into the trap of having the tv babysit for me. Especially when I'm not feeling well. I'm always surprised at how easily they seem to adapt when I bite the bullet and keep it turned off more often.
I think your wall could use some color, too. Maybe do the great room in the same color? Just not beige/tan. That's what we have in our family room with our brown leather right now, and it is so Blah!
