putting my pie in my boca
I need to brush up on my high school spanish.We got new neighbors this week. I stopped on the way back from a walk with Howie yesterday morning to meet the wife, who was hosing off the sidewalk. She didn't speak much english and after three attempts at asking how old her kids were, I figured I'd try it in spanish. Okay, let's see... cuántos años, that's easy... now, what was the next part? cuántos, cuántos, cuántos, cuestan! that's it. cuántos años cuestan? If you know spanish at all, you know I just asked how much her kids cost. At least I got the years in there. I think she got it, because she told me 9,7,5 and 4. Good thing I have Tedi around to translate for me and tell me just how estúpido I am.

All I know is Dora Spanish.
I tried 5 times to ask the guy at the carwash this morning where the seatbelt buckle disappeared to. I even held up the seatbelt and asked where he wanted me to put it. (probably had an answer for that one) All he kept doing was wiping down the seat under Kyle's booster seat. Good thing I realized that the seat will unfold and the buckles were in there.
And while we're talking about Spanish...Kyle has a few ESL kids in his class. (english as a 2nd language) He was telling me this one girl yells all the time, but doesn't get into trouble. I was thinking maybe she has disabilities or something, so I asked if she talks differently. He said, "ya. she does. she talks Spanish"
el loco en le cabesa, or is it loca because female? spanish 1 in my sophomore year didn't stick very well. i was counting on you and tedi to talk w/kirby since she starts spanish classes after school this year... so hurry and brush up ;o)
Good for you for trying. Your neighbor probably appreciated the effort.
"Cuántos años cuestan" could also be translated to mean "How many years have they cost you?" With four kids, I'm pretty sure the answer would be, "Muchos y muchos años."
I bet she really appreciated your effort. Regardless of the language they speak, I think all moms love to talk about their kids.

Yep, Hispanos, Latinos -whatever, I never know which one to use- always appreciate efforts to speak their language. You friendly American you :D

Good for you... I don't know enough Spanish to carry on a conversation. Yikes. Although I can say, "Doors to my left."
We just had a retired couple from Mexico move in across the cul-de-sac. If you have any tips for communicating...HELP! We have gotten as far as "Gracias"...I think.
My ability to understand French will do me no good.
I wouldn't have any clue how to ask her anything...There would be lots of hand gesturing and me yelling. Cause yelling works, right?
It's funny cause my husband is Mexican, but neither of us speak spanish. :0( Sucks.
Lol. I took 7 years of German and all I remember is how to say "elbow". No gift of toungues here.
