count me out
I once heard a quote to the effect that good cooks clean up as they go. I'm officially out of that race. I give you exhibit A:
This is the carnage from one apple pie (plus a day's worth of dishes). In my defense, the boxes on the island were placed there by Matt about 10 minutes before the photo. In his defense, I assigned bedtime responsibilities to him as soon as he walked in the door.
I used to be really good about keeping things together. I could cook a Thanksgiving dinner with little to no aftermath. Now? All my attention is focused on a different type of damage control. "please be careful on that stool. Oh, you can reach the knife block while you're up there? that's great. Here, play with this cup of water and measuring spoon on the floor. Yes, I see that you dumped it all over your pants. Thank you for emptying the towel drawer to clean that up. Would you like another slice of apple coated in sugar?"

I love baking cakes- but I hate the clean up afterwards. My kitchen looks like yours on a regular basis.
That's normal at my house, but I have 2 and 1/2 at that stage. Makes it awfully hard to focus.
I don't know why, but the sight of the broom and dust pan on the floor made me LOL big time.
Good think he's cute, ey?
But he's such a great helper, mom ;)
On a good day, my kitchen looks like your picture. But I'm getting better. :)
I've learned that walking into the kitchen after my kids have been cooking or baking requires some real strength, as in, "OK, self, don't freak..."
I can totally relate to what you're saying. I'm learning to work around the piles of plastic bowls and dolls on the floor while propping a toddler on my hip. Crazy!
As an aside, I love the color of your walls.
But you got a pie!! And that is what really matters in the end. :p
ditto Emily. Being a mom is all about letting go of standards. Or is that only me?
