and in this corner...

Making his debut at a featherweight after a championship run as a lightweight... weighing in at 20 lbs, 15 1/2 oz, it's Howie, the Destroyer!

Sigh. up 6 oz, but he slipped again in percentiles. We were clutching the bottom of the chart with all our might, but he's finally fallen off. The ped said our goal for the two year checkup is to be up 3 lbs. That will get him back on the chart. Did you laugh out loud at that like I did? Yeah, 1.5 lbs in the past year and he expects 3 by December? That's not happening. Howie's been eating better these last 3 months than he has in his entire life and he's still only up 6 oz.

Also- height. He's up to 31.7", but that only puts him at 40th percentile. That's his lowest yet. His head circumference was down to the 80th percentile, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The important thing is to focus on the positives. He's grown slightly in all of those areas, weight, height and head size. At least he's not stagnant anymore. He's just not anywhere near keeping up with his peers. He's not suffering developmentally in any way and in many ways is ahead of expectations for his age. So he's going to be the small, smart one, and he's so going to get beat up in school. Oh wait, did I say positives?

3lbs by December? Maybe you should put a roll of quarters in his diaper. One of my neighbors did that (in her pocket, not her diaper) so she would haven't to be hospitalized when her morning sickness was bad.

I try to tell myself that, Lianne. I'm still a little obsessive after he was 19.5 lbs at 8, 9, 12, 13 and 14 mos.

good thinking, Char. Except we weigh him naked. Gotta find somewhere to hide some quarters on that kid.

Sabe, always nice to see you.

oh yeah! one more positive- Howie just sat and watched as he had to be pricked three(!), times to get his iron checked. No crying, no kicking- he even laughed a little when Alex had to squeeze his foot to get more blood to come out. I think the kid is a little too used to being poked.

Less positive, a hematocrit of just over 31 got him back on iron supplements.

Think of all the things he can do if he stays small. Ride that triple crown winner!!

I guess if there's nothing medically wrong, there's nothing to worry about.

If the bully's come after him his Mother can take 'em.
