we have a lawn(ish)
Our grass has started sprouting. I'm excited, but paranoid we're going to kill it. It's still rather sparse and looks much better from an ant's view.

We're also getting other weird growths from under the topsoil. Our first thought was that they were caused by leaks in the sprinkler system, but then we realized that none of the pipes ran under the bumps. Then we thought that maybe rocks were coming to the surface because it was so wet, but that didn't make much sense.

We're not supposed to walk on it, but I ventured out to one of the drier patches yesterday. Mushrooms. It makes sense, I guess. It's wet, it's dark and there's lots of dirt and some poop. Given the rapid growth of the bump shown above, I went and retieved that one this morning.

We're growing huge, potentially poisonous fungus that I let my shirtless toddler play with. Classy.

Woot for lawns and letting your kid play with fungus!
If you look at the picture of the "growth" it actually looks like a little frog coming out of the ground...or maybe that is just me.
Too much water. No more than 1" a week. Once the grass is sprouting you don't need to keep it damp all the time, it promote fungus growth. Depending on the climate where you are I would water once or twice a week.
NO WAY!!! I have never seen a home grown mushroom that was THAT big!
Congrats on your lawn! Our dirt days weren't that long ago.
I heart grass!
lol and the ant's view of your grass!
I want a picture of you taking that picture (the ant's view one)! That is a very large fungus, too. Too bad it's not a portabello. Deciding what to do for dinner would be easy!
