yeah, we planned it that way

Our mortgage company has called twice this week. I answered the first time. They asked for Matt, and sensing it was a telemarketer, I pressed for details before giving any information about when he'd return home.

"This is [your morgage company]. We're calling to follow up on your account."
"follow up to what? has anything changed?"
"well, no."
"then what are you following up on?"
"in reviewing your account, we've found that your home is worth more than you owe. We'd like to help you maximize that."
"um, no thanks."
"if you'd like more information, please call us at-"

They called again, and this time Matt was actually home, so I let him deal with it. They used the same schpeel about our house being worth more than we owe. Matt just said, "Isn't that the point?" and hung up.

It is awfully tempting. I mean, we've got some debt to pay down, that furniture to buy, a few trips we're planning/hoping for and let's not get started about the basement. and that equity? Well, it's money that's just sitting there...

Something tells me there are a lot of people who take the bait.
