Happy 4th of July!
Have you ever noticed that it's rarely called Independence Day? It's just July 4th or the 4th of July or even just the 4th. We could call it America Day or We pay enough for our tea and don't want to pay your tax day or even 5 dozen sweaty men locked in a room in July so let's just finish this thing already Day, but we don't. There's no need to call it by any other name. We all know what it means. Aside from the picnics, fireworks and parades, we stop for a day and recognize that for good or bad, we live in a great country- one in which we are blessed beyond belief and are even free to write run-on sentences.This year is a uneventful for us in contrast with last year. Not much can compare to spending the week of July 4th in our Nation's capitol. Matt had to work today and we went furniture shopping then out to dinner tonight. Tomorrow I have the joy of working all morning and then we are going to my aunt's house after Howie's nap. She has a pool and we are going to barbeque. It's nothing like watching fireworks on the National Mall, but nice in its own way.
Here's a blurry shot of fireworks behind the Washinton Monument for your enjoyment. Note- before taking a special trip (maybe even once in a lifetime), take the time to learn your camera's features. Otherwise, you'll realize sometime in late November that it has a fireworks setting and your pictures 5 months earlier could have been much, much better.So, what are your plans for the 4th?

I plan on spending time with my family, and then going to our local fireworks show, where I will inevitably bawl when they play the patriotic songs that always tug at my heart-strings!

We'll be sleeping, cooking, hanging out, and around 5 we'll get together with friends for dinner and fireworks. Love this time of year!

Hanging out (probably more like putting our home back in some sort of order). Maybe some swimming. At 5, we're going to our neighbor's for a bbq. We're lucky enough to live about 1 block from where they set off the fireworks here, so all we have to do is go into our parking lot :)
Actually, before kids, we use to have this "tradition" of going to Ikea every 4th. Hmm...that doesn't sound like a bad idea today! (the mess of the apartment can wait, right?)
We went to my step mom's neighborhood parade/carnival thingy and then had a barbecue, got rained on, and came home. Bet your swimming was fun.

i am sitting home cause smart babe is in bed and smart daddyo and son are catching some 'works-- totally dig the mall fireworks- although i must say boston rocks the house too!
Thanks for stopping by my place. Being Canadian, I celebrated July 1st which is also an anniversary of sorts for my husband and I. We started dating 9 years ago on the July long weekend. Wow. Has it really been so long? I agree, the fireworks photo is pretty sweet.
We were driving home. Poor Ty, every time a town was putting on a show he was in the wrong spot to see, either a car seat, head,overpass, hill, etc. was in his eye-line. So from Kadoka on it was "where, where, where" then if by chance he seen one, it was "more fireworks, wherem where, where"
